ANTISTORM
Anthropogenic Aerosols Triggering and Invigorating Severe Storms

A European Commission NEST INSIGHT Project

ANTISTORM will provide one of the first insights into the science of "man-made" weather in Europe. In fact, some weather phenomena may not be as natural as commonly thought. Recent studies suggest that man-made particulate pollution can substantially increase the severity of certain storms or even trigger their inception.

PURPOSE

The ANTISTORM project aims to combine satellite and ground observations of storm-cloud structure and aerosol pollutants to determine the effects of pollution on storm dynamics in Europe. The models developed by the consortium should help to improve forecasting and even suggest strategies for mitigating storms before disaster strikes.
